GTA 6: everything we know before launch

Release date, price, editions, platforms, characters, the map and what's still unannounced: a single, sourced summary of GTA VI ahead of November 19.

October 30, 2026 · 3 min read

Grand Theft Auto VI is less than three weeks away. Here's everything Rockstar has confirmed, what's only been reported, and what we still don't know. We keep this page updated as news lands; the full dated list is on our news timeline.

Release date: November 19, 2026

GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

It's taken a while to get here. Trailer 1 in December 2023 promised a 2025 release. In May 2025 Rockstar set a firm date of May 26, 2026, and in November 2025 it moved again to November 19 for extra polish. Take-Two has repeated the November date in every earnings report since, including its August 2026 results.

Is it coming to PC?

Not at launch. Only console versions have been announced. In October 2026, GamesBeat reported (citing anonymous sources) that a PC version is aimed at the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar hasn't commented, so treat that as a report, not a promise. For comparison, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both reached PC more than a year after their console launches.

Price, editions and pre-order bonus

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026.

  • Standard Edition: $79.99 (US). Sold digitally or as a boxed "code in a box". The box holds a download code, not a disc.
  • Ultimate Edition: reported at $99.99. Digital only. It adds a set of extra vehicles (including a classic Grotti Cheetah and a classic car collection), weapons, and businesses such as custom garages and a tattoo parlour.
  • Pre-order bonus: anything bought before November 20, 2026 includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of retro-themed vehicles, outfits and cosmetics.

Rockstar's support pages also say digital pre-orders come with a month of GTA+. Check your platform's store for the exact terms.

Preloading

Reports based on Rockstar's pre-order announcement say digital preloading starts November 12, a week before launch. Rockstar hasn't announced an exact unlock time for launch day; most stores unlock games at midnight local time, but we'll confirm when Rockstar does.

The story and characters

You play as two leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple whose relationship sits at the centre of the story. Lucia is the first woman to lead a modern Grand Theft Auto. The 26-minute gameplay video showed the pair working jobs together.

Rockstar has also introduced six supporting characters, from Jason's conspiracy-minded friend Cal Hampton to the veteran bank robber Raul Bautista. Short bios for all of them are on our characters page.

The map: the state of Leonida

GTA VI is set in Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida. Vice City is the headline, but the state includes five other regions: the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, the faded coastal town of Port Gellhorn, the sugar-refinery town of Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park in the north.

Rockstar hasn't published an official map size. Numbers you see online are fan estimates from the trailers. Our guide to Leonida's regions covers each area and the real place it's based on.

Trailers and gameplay so far

  • Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023): released a day early after it leaked.
  • Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025): came with Rockstar's character and location pages.
  • An Extended Look (August 27, 2026): about 26 minutes of gameplay captured on a standard PS5. It premiered on Netflix before going up on YouTube.
  • Launch trailer (October 15, 2026): a surprise drop set to new music from Justice, who also scored the game.

There was never a trailer called "Trailer 3". Anything claiming otherwise is mixing these up.

What about GTA Online?

Nothing announced. So far Rockstar has talked about GTA VI as a single-player game. An online mode is widely expected at some point, but any date you see is speculation.

What we still don't know

  • The exact launch-day unlock time
  • Any online mode plans
  • A PC release date
  • Official map size and accessibility options
